NO MAN'S SKY

(Article generated from 'Trusted Reviews')

No Man’s Sky, the hugely ambitious space adventure by Hello Games has been boggling the minds of gamers since 2013. It takes place in a procedurally generated universe full of billions of planets, so there’s incredible potential for endless engrossing space exploration and discovery. Exploration isn’t the only feature, though. Here are five things you should know about the game...

IT’S ABSOLUTELY HUGE
The entire universe of No Man’s Sky is filled with a dizzying array of planets, stars, lifeforms and ecosystems, all ripe for discovery. You will stumble across alien creatures, ancient civilizations and strange, untouched technology as you make your way toward the centre of the galaxy. There will be a total of 18 quintillion planets, which would take players centuries to explore in real life on their own. The odds of encountering another person out in the wild is near impossible, unless you have the exact co-ordinates of their current star system.

THERE IS NO STORY, AND THAT’S A GOOD THING
The universe in No Man’s Sky will no doubt be filled with engaging mysteries and profound lore, but there will be no linear story to follow. The only story will be told by YOU, punctuated by the planets and creatures you discover along the way. There are also a multitude of alien languages to uncover as you progress. These come in the form of a fully-fledged alphabets that can be used to communicate with NPCs such as merchants and hostile mercenaries.

YOU HAVE YOUR VERY OWN SPACESHIP
Space exploration will play an integral part in No Man’s Sky, so as you might expect, keeping your ride in up to speed is super vital. Every spaceship can be upgraded in a number of categories, whether this be brutal firepower or agile manoeuvrability. You’ll also be able to purchase shiny new ships at space stations dotted throughout the galaxy, so long as you have enough currency. If you happen to get blown to pieces on your travels, don’t worry, your ship will accompany you when you respawn.

THE UNIVERSE HAS LAWS _ SO BEHAVE!!
It isn’t quite Grand Theft Auto in space, but misbehaving in No Man’s Sky does have its consequences. When harvesting resources on a new planet you don’t want to be too greedy, otherwise Sentinels will come after you. These towering mechanical beings can be defeated if you have the right equipment, but pack a hefty punch regardless. The same rules apply to each planet’s wildlife. If you harm them or purposely destroy their natural habitat you’re in for some serious punishment.

YOU CAN MAKE FRIENDS AND ENEMIES
You might not stumble across a living, breathing human in No Man’s Sky, but there will be plenty of opportunities to form new relationships, which can be good and bad. If you befriend specific characters in the game world you can join special factions with their own unique benefits. Helping certain factions could reward you with new equipment and resources or drag you into an irreversible conflict. Rival factions will often go into battle with one another, forcing you into colossal dogfights in the vast emptiness of space. This will put your skills to the ultimate test, so make sure you come prepared.

ROCKET LEAGUE

(Article generated from 'IGN')

Rocket-powered cars flipping through the air in Thunderdome-esque matches of cage-soccer sounds like the incoherent ramblings of a madman, but it turns out to be just crazy enough to work. Psyonix’s Rocket League finds fun in pulling turbocharge-assisted front flips in an ice cream truck, and the white-knuckle strategy in working with your team to control the giant ball on offense and defense. The fast and fluid absurdity of Rocket League fuses into one hell of a good time.

The main mode puts two teams of three in visually diverse but performance-identical vehicles as they race up and down the pitch chasing the league’s oversized equivalent of a soccer ball. The great thing is, you don’t need to know anything about driving games or soccer to play. The rules are simple: drive really fast around bright, glossy, neon colored arenas and do fancy tricks while trying to smash an endlessly ricocheting ball into a deceptively tight space.

The heart of Rocket League lives in that feeling of unrestricted movement. Thanks in large part to the laws of gravity and momentum being changed to allow for driving on the walls and ceiling, and ridiculous mid-air direction changes that would liquefy the driver in the real world.

Tapping your jump button puts you in the air, where tapping it again with a direction held performs a somersault, barrel roll, or bicycle kick. It might sound simple but timing a strike to connect with a speeding ball, and controlling the direction you send it sailing, down to precise angles, takes some skill. There is real satisfaction to seeing a teammate lining up a shot from the corner and reading the situation, slamming on the brakes to nudge the “pass” into the goal with a perfectly timed barrel roll. It’s electric!

Rocket League is a great, goofy, easy to learn and difficult to master action-sports game which demands that you grab a few friends and play a few rounds.
